The US Fish and Wildlife Service welcomes Let’s Go Paddling
The US Fish and Wildlife Service is encouraging Let’s Go Paddling Welcome Centers to host events at national refuges, specifically those with canoe and kayak water trails, on June 5, National Trails Day.
National Trails Day is the American Hiking Society’s signature trail awareness program, aimed at inspiring the public and trail enthusiasts nationwide to seek out their favorite trails to discover, learn about, and celebrate trails while participating in educational exhibits, trail dedications, gear demonstrations, instructional workshops and trail work projects
The National Wildlife Refuge System, managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, is the world’s premier system of public lands and waters set aside to conserve America’s fish, wildlife and plants. Since President Theodore Roosevelt designated Florida’s Pelican Island as the first wildlife refuge in 1903, the System has grown to more than 150 million acres, 551 national wildlife refuges and other units of the Refuge System, plus 37 wetland management districts
